The Walter and Eliza Hall Trust becomes The Hall Foundation
For more than 100 years, the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust has delivered practical financial support to Australians facing acute financial stress. This year, we’re continuing that work under a new name: The Hall Foundation.
It’s a change that reflects both where we’ve come from—and where we’re going.
Founded in 1912 by Eliza Hall with a donation of £1,000,000, the original Trust was created to offer meaningful help to people in urgent need. It was shaped by Eliza’s deep belief that giving should be personal, purposeful and grounded in the realities of hardship. That belief continues to guide every decision we make today.
As The Hall Foundation, we’re making that vision clearer and more accessible—for the people we support, the partners we work alongside, and the benefactors who power our mission.
What’s changing
Our name, logo and visual identity will change to reflect a more modern, flexible and focused approach to giving. Our new brand makes space for the future—while still honouring Eliza Hall’s legacy and the foundation she laid.
Our legal structure, mission, and programs remain the same.
What stays the same
Our purpose hasn’t changed. We continue to deliver fast, practical grants to people experiencing sharp financial strain, through our network of trusted case workers and partner organisations. We continue to invest in the long-term work of preventing systemic hardship. And we continue to believe in the power of giving that responds to real, immediate needs—without red tape or strings attached.
What’s next
Over the coming weeks, you’ll see our new name and branding roll out across our website, funding portal, and communications. Updates to our direct giving programs will be announced shortly, alongside the launch of our refreshed website.
We’re proud of our past—and we’re focused on what lies ahead. As The Hall Foundation, we remain committed to building a fairer, more resilient Australia, where no one is left waiting for help that doesn’t come.
